Aunt Lizzie'S Famous Stew - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. beef stew
    2 Tbsp. fat
    4 c. boiling water
    1 tsp. lemon juice
    1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
    1 clove garlic
    1 medium onion
    2 bay leaves
    2 Tbsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. paprika
    dash of allspice
    1/2 tsp. pepper
    1 tsp. sugar
    carrots, potatoes and any other favorite vegetables
Preparation
    Brown meat in hot fat.
    Add water, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, garlic and onion (which have been chopped), bay leaves and seasoning.
    Simmer for 2 hours; stir occasionally to keep from sticking.
    Forty-five minutes before done, add sliced carrots and quartered potatoes.
    Top with dumplings 15 minutes before meal time.
    Serves 8.
