Macaroni And Cheese Italian Style - cooking recipe

1 (8 oz.) pkg. shell macaroni
1/2 lb. sharp Cheddar cheese, grated
1 medium onion, sliced thin
1 (No. 303) can tomatoes
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. crushed basil
1/8 c. water
1/8 c. oil
1 clove garlic, crushed
1/8 c. sugar
1 tsp. pepper
1/8 c. flour
Preparation

Heat oil in large skillet.
Saute onion and garlic until light brown.
Stir in tomatoes, sugar, salt, pepper and basil.
Simmer 10 minutes.
Make a paste of water and flour.
Add to tomato mixture, stirring until smooth and thickened.
Remove from heat. Add grated cheese and stir until melted.
Combine cooked macaroni and place in greased casserole.
Bake, uncovered, at 350\u00b0 for 35 to 40 minutes.
