Ingredients

1 c. shortening
3 c. sugar
6 eggs
3 c. sifted cake flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. soda
1 tsp. lemon extract
1 c. buttermilk
Preparation

Cream together shortening and sugar.
Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Sift together flour, salt and soda and add to creamed mixture, alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour mixture.
Add lemon extract and blend well.
Pour into greased and floured 10-inch tube pan.
Bake in a 350\u00b0 oven for 1 hour and 10 minutes or until cake tests done. Allow to stand in pan a few minutes before turning out.
