Sweet Cucumber Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 qt. thinly sliced cucumbers
    1/3 c. salt
    3 c. vinegar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    5 c. sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    1/2 tsp. alum
Preparation
    Soak cucumbers in salt water with ice cubes for 2 hours and drain.
    Bring remaining ingredients to boil for a brine and add pickles.
    Boil just to heat through.
    Put in jars and seal.
    Makes 10 pints.
