Stack Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. white sugar
    1 egg
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    3 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 c. shortening
    1/4 c. buttermilk
Preparation
    Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs and beat well.
    Sift flour and dry ingredients together 3 times, add to batter alternately with buttermilk.
    Add vanilla.
    Divide into 4 parts. Roll out on well floured board into circles.
    Pat into well-greased 8-inch pans.
    Bake at 450\u00b0 for 10 to 12 minutes or until brown.
