Hardtack Candy - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. sugar
    2 c. light Karo syrup
    2 c. water
    2 tsp. oil flavoring
    food coloring
    powdered sugar
Preparation
    In heavy saucepan, combine all ingredients, except powdered sugar.
    Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
    Cook until \"hard crack\" stage is reached.
    Remove from heat.
    Add flavoring and food coloring; stir until well mixed.
    Sprinkle powdered sugar on countertop or table.
    Pour hot mixture over powdered sugar, making a thin layer.
    Sprinkle more powdered sugar on top.
    Cool and cut into small pieces with scissors.
