Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    12 cucumbers
    6 onions
    4 green peppers
    5 c. sugar
    1 Tbsp. pickling spice
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1/5 c. salt
    1 c. water
    3 c. vinegar
Preparation
    Slice cucumbers, onions and pepper and soak in salt water for 1 hour, then drain.
    Cover with ice cubes for 1/2 hour.
    Mix sugar, vinegar, spices and water.
    Bring to hard boil.
    Put in cucumbers, onions and peppers.
    Boil again for about 1 minute, hard.
    Put in jars.
    Makes 4 quarts.
