Lima Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. lima beans
    1/2 lb. ham, chopped fine or 1/4 lb. bacon, fried crisp and crumbled fine
    1/2 c. celery, chopped fine
    1 small green pepper, chopped fine
    1 medium onion, chopped fine
    1 (16 oz.) can crushed tomatoes
    4 Tbsp. salt
    2 Tbsp. black or white pepper
Preparation
    Clean
    and
    wash
    beans.
    Add
    to
    the gallon of water. Cover and
    bring
    to a boil.
    Cook for 1 hour over a low fire. After the beans have cooked for 1 hour, add the ham, or bacon, onions, celery,
    green peppers, tomatoes and continue to cook for an additional 45 minutes under a low fire.
    With 2 tablespoons of flour,
    mix a smooth mixture of flour and water and add
    to
    the soup,
    stirring
    to make a smooth textured soup. Serve as an appetizer, or as a main course meal.
    Serves 15 to 20 people.
