Boston Baked Beans - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. dried navy beans
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1 medium yellow onion, peeled and sliced
    salt pork seasoning
    3 Tbsp. dark molasses
    1 Tbsp. cider vinegar
    1 tsp. dry mustard
    1/4 c. brown sugar
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. black pepper
Preparation
    Soak the beans overnight in ample water.
    Drain the beans and cook in ample water with the baking soda.
    Bring to a boil and simmer for 20 minutes.
    Drain.
    Place beans in a 2-quart baking pot with a lid.
    Add salt pork and onion.
    Mix remaining ingredients with a cup of hot water and pour over the beans.
    Add enough additional hot water to cover the beans.
    Place the lidded baking pot in a 300\u00b0 oven for about 4 hours, longer if the beans are not tender.
    Stir only once or twice during the cooking process and add more water to keep the beans moist.
    Do not drown them.
