Sopa De Gandules("Pigeon Peas Soup" With Shrimp) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 lb. pigeon peas (get at El Mercado, Knox.)
    1 bottle of beer
    4 c. chicken stock
    1/2 lb. winter squash
    1/2 can tomato paste
    salt and pepper
    1.2 lb. peeled, cooked shrimp
Preparation
    In large stockpot, combine peas, stock, beer, tomato paste, and squash.
    Cook until tender.
    Salt and pepper to taste.
    Add shrimp, heating slowly.
    Serves 4, as first course.
