3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. Brer Rabbit molasses
1 egg
1 tsp. soda
2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation

Melt shortening in a large saucepan over low heat.
Remove from heat; let cool.
Add sugar, molasses and egg; beat well. Sift dry ingredients; add to first mixture.
Mix well and chill. Form in 1-inch balls, then roll in granulated sugar.
Place on greased cookie sheet, 2 inches apart.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for 8 to 10 minutes.
Do not overbake!
