Hernekeitto(Pea Soup) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 lb. green split peas
    1 ham bone
    1 medium onion, chopped
    1/2 tsp. pepper
    8 c. water
    1 carrot, chopped
    2 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Soak the peas in water overnight.
    In a large pot, bring the peas to a boil in the same water.
    Skim.
    Add the meat, carrots and onion and simmer about 2 hours or until the peas are tender. Remove the ham bone.
    Take any meat off the bone and return to the soup.
    Add the salt and pepper and serve.
