Casserole Espanol - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. mild seasoned sausage
    1/2 c. chopped onion
    1 clove garlic, minced
    2 (15 oz.) cans Caliente style chili beans
    1 egg
    2/3 c. milk
    2 1/2 Tbsp. water
    1/2 tsp. chili powder, divided in half
    1 (12 oz.) pkg. corn muffin mix
    grated Cheddar cheese (optional)
Preparation
    In large skillet, brown sausage, breaking it into small chunks.
    Remove sausage with slotted spoon; set aside.
    Pour off all but 1 tablespoon fat.
    Add onion and garlic; saute until onion is tender.
    Stir in beans, sausage, water and 1/2 chili powder.
