1/2 c. margarine
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
3/4 c. flour
2 oz. unsweetened baking chocolate
2 eggs
1/2 c. chopped nuts (optional)
1/2 tsp. baking powder

Variations:
Butterscotch Brownies:
Omit chocolate and substitute 1 cup brown sugar for the white sugar.
For added flavor, add 1/2 cup butterscotch bits.
