2 c. flour
1 c. dark brown sugar, firmly packed
1 c. softened salted butter
1 large egg
1 c. (4 oz.) chopped pecans
9 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. vanilla extract
Preparation

Combine flour and soda and set aside.
With an electric mixer, blend sugar and butter.
Add egg and vanilla and beat at medium speed until light and smooth.
Add the flour mixture, pecans and chocolate chips.
Blend at low speed until combined.
Do not overbeat.
Transfer mixture into 8 x 8-inch greased baking pan; smooth evenly.
Bake at 300\u00b0 for 35 to 45 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean, but center is still soft.
Cool to room temperature.
Cut with sharp knife into 1 x 2-inch bars.
Yields 16 bars.
