Pepper Steak - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 lb. boneless sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch pieces
    1 Tbsp. shortening, melted
    2 medium onions, chopped
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 c. canned, diluted beef broth
    3 Tbsp. soy sauce
    1 clove garlic, minced
    2 green bell peppers, cut into pieces
    1/4 c. cold water
    2 Tbsp. cornstarch
    1 (10 oz.) can stewed tomatoes, undrained
    hot cooked rice
Preparation
    Brown steak in shortening.
    Add onions and salt. Saute until onion is tender.
    Stir in broth, soy sauce and garlic.
    Cover, reduce heat, simmer 10 minutes.
    Add green peppers, cover and simmer 5 minutes.
    Combine water and cornstarch; stir well. Gradually stir cornstarch mixture into steak mixture.
    Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens.
    Add tomatoes and cook, stirring constantly, until thoroughly heated.
    Serve over hot rice.
    Makes 6 servings.
