Split Pea Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 c. extra-virgin olive oil
    2 medium onions, chopped
    2 cloves garlic, chopped
    1 c. dried split peas
    6 c. water
    1/2 c. sliced carrots
    1 stalk celery, chopped
    1 bay leaf
    1/4 tsp. black pepper
Preparation
    Heat olive oil in large, heavy soup pot over medium heat and saute onion and garlic until softened.
    Stir in split peas, water, carrots, celery, bay leaf and black pepper.
    Reduce heat and simmer for 2 hours, stirring frequently.
