Chipper Brownie - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. chopped dates (8 oz.)
    1 c. boiling water
    1 c. shortening or margarine (8 oz.)
    1 c. granulated sugar
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 3/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
    1/4 c. cocoa
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 c. broken walnuts
    1 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
Preparation
    Cover dates with a cup of boiling water and cool.
    Cream the butter, sugar and eggs.
    Add dry ingredients, then dates and water.
    Spread in 15 x 10 x 1-inch jelly roll pan and cover with nuts and chocolate chips.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for about 25 to 30 minutes.
