Chicken And Dumplings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 whole chicken
    8 to 10 c. water
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. pepper
    2 c. all-purpose flour
    3 Tbsp. shortening
    1 c. milk (2/3 c. for dough)
Preparation
    Cook chicken until tender in 8 to 10 cups water.
    Remove chicken from broth.
    While chicken is cooking, make dough.
    Sift 2 cups flour and 1 teaspoon salt; add shortening, mixed until a meal texture.
    Add milk to make dough.
    Place dough on floured board and roll out very thin.
    Cut in one-inch wide strips 4 to 6 inches long.
    Drop in boiling broth until all dough is used.
    Cook 5 minutes.
    Add 1/4 cup milk.
    Cook until boiling again.
    Remove from heat.
    Add chicken if desired and serve.
