Sweet Zucchini Or Yellow Squash Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. squash or zucchini, sliced 1/4-inch thick
    6 onions, sliced
    2 cloves garlic, sliced
    5 bell peppers, chopped to bite-size
    1/2 c. canning salt
    5 c. sugar
    3 c. vinegar (5% acidity)
    1 1/2 tsp. mustard seed
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
Preparation
    Place squash, onions and garlic in an enamel or crockery pan with salt added.
    Cover with ice.
    Let set 3 hours.
    Drain off salt.
    Pour vinegar, sugar, mustard seed and turmeric over squash. Bring to a boil.
    Put in hot jars.
    Heat lids and seal.
