Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 qt. thinly sliced cucumbers
    1/2 c. salt
    6 medium white onions, sliced
    2 to 3 doz. ice cubes
    4 c. sugar
    2 c. vinegar
    2 c. water
    2 Tbsp. celery seed
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    2 tsp. turmeric
Preparation
    Layer cucumbers, salt and onions in a large container.
    Cover with ice.
    Let sit 3 hours.
    Drain.
    Combine remaining ingredients in a large pan.
    Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved.
    Boil 3 minutes.
    Add cucumbers and onions.
    Bring to just below boiling.
    Pour into hot sterilized jars.
    Seal and process in boiling water bath 10 minutes.
