Red Kidney Beans With Turnips - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. red kidney beans
    4 medium-sized turnips
    1/4 tsp. ground ginger
    1/4 tsp. ground turmeric
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. chili powder
    4 Tbsp. vegetable oil
    1 medium onion, peeled, cut in half lengthwise, then cut crosswise into fine half rings
    2 to 3 cloves garlic, peeled and finely chopped
Preparation
    Pick beans over and wash well.
    Soak overnight; drain.
    Put red kidney beans in large pan.
    Add 5 cups water and bring to boil.
    Boil vigorously for 10 minutes. Turn heat down and simmer, partially covered, for 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until cooked through.
