Icicle Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 gal. crock sliced cucumbers
    1 pt. salt
    alum
    2 1/2 qt. vinegar
    16 c. sugar
    pickling spices
Preparation
    Slice cucumbers lengthwise to fill a two-gallon crock. Dissolve salt in one gallon of boiling water.
    Pour salt water over cucumbers.
    Cover and let stand one week; drain.
