Six Layer Casserole - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. ground beef or sausage, browned
    1 1/2 c. sliced potatoes
    1 c. sliced carrots
    1 c. diced onion
    2 c. chopped tomatoes (juice included)
    1/2 c. raw rice
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    1 1/2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
Preparation
    Alternate layers of meat, vegetables and rice, making sure rice is not top layer or it will be too dry.
    Sprinkle salt throughout layers and the sugar on top.
    Cover and bake for 1 1/2 to 2 hours in 350\u00b0 oven, adding extra liquid as necessary to prevent excessive drying out.
    I use canned tomatoes and juice.
    I also have added 1 can drained whole kernel corn, chopped celery and when casserole is in the last 5 minutes of completion, I grate Cheddar cheese on top and let melt.
