Candied Yams - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 bag small marshmallows
    6 fresh sweet potatoes
    1 lb. sugar
    cinnamon
    nutmeg
    1 stick butter
    cherries
Preparation
    Scrub sweet potatoes.
    Boil until tender.
    Cool and peel and cut in half.
    Make simple syrup by putting sugar in pot and cover with water.
    Cook until the consistency of syrup.
    Place potatoes in casserole and pour syrup over potatoes.
    Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg, then dot with butter.
    Bake on low heat for 1/2 hour. Add marshmallows and cherries; place back in oven and bake until marshmallows are browned.
    Keep warm until ready to eat.
