Ingredients

1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. maple syrup
1 egg
2/3 c. self-rising flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. rolled oats
1 c. chopped walnuts
Preparation

In mixing bowl, cream sugar and shortening.
Add syrup and egg; beat well.
Add flour to creamed mixture; add vanilla and mix well.
Stir in oats and walnuts.
Pour into greased 9-inch square baking pan. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 35 minutes.
Cut into squares while warm.
Cool on wire rack.
