New Year'S Hopping John - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 slices bacon or hog jowl
    1/4 lb. coarsely chopped smoked ham
    1 medium chopped onion
    2 tsp. garlic powder or to taste
    15 oz. can black-eyed peas, drained
    2 c. cooked rice
    hot pepper sauce to taste
    salt to taste
    pinch of red pepper
Preparation
    Cook bacon/hog jowl until crisp.
    Drain and crumble.
    Save 3 tablespoons drippings.
    Saute ham and onion in drippings until tender.
    Stir in garlic powder, peas, rice, hot pepper sauce, red pepper and salt.
    Simmer until thoroughly heated.
