Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. sliced cucumbers
    8 small onions, sliced
    2 green peppers, shredded
    1/2 c. salt
    5 c. sugar
    5 c. vinegar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1/2 tsp. cloves
    3 Tbsp. mustard seed
    1 tsp. celery seed
    1 tsp. garlic powder
Preparation
    Sprinkle vegetables with the salt, cover with ice and let set for 3 hours.
    Mix the remaining ingredients and heat.
    Add cucumbers and bring to a boil, but do not boil.
    Turn a few times as they heat.
    Place in jars and seal.
