Surprise Dessert - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 stick butter or oleo
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    2 c. oatmeal
    1/2 c. coconut
    1 c. coarsely chopped nuts
    1/2 gal. vanilla ice cream
Preparation
    Combine butter, sugar, oatmeal and coconut.
    Spread on cookie sheet and brown lightly in moderate oven.
    Watch carefully and stir occasionally as it will burn easily.
    Place a jar of caramel sauce in pan of hot water to soften.
    When mixture is cool enough to handle, spread 3/4 of it over a 13 x 9-inch pan.
    Sprinkle nuts over mixture and drizzle caramel sauce over nuts.
    Have ice cream soft enough to spread out in your dish.
