Seven-Layer Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    shredded lettuce
    1 c. green pepper, chopped
    1 c. celery, chopped
    1 red onion, sliced thinly
    8 slices bacon, fried crisp
    1 small can green peas, drained
    2 c. mayonnaise
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    1 (8 oz.) sharp Cheddar cheese
Preparation
    Layer in order as listed, except for mayonnaise, sugar, bacon and cheese.
    Mix mayonnaise and sugar; cover layers with this, being sure to seal edges.
    Put grated cheese on top of this with crisp bacon bits (about 8 slices, cooked).
    Cover dish and refrigerate about 12 hours.
