Walnut Butterscotch Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 c. shortening
    1 egg
    1 tsp soda
    1/2 tsp cinnamon
    1/8 tsp cloves
    1/2 c. chopped walnuts
    1 c. sugar
    1 1/3 c. flour, sifted
    3/4 tsp salt
    1/4 tsp nutmeg
    3/4 c. canned applesauce
Preparation
    Cream shortening, sugar and egg together well.
    Sift flour with soda, salt and spices.
    Blend into creamed mixture alternately with applesauce.
    Stir in walnuts.
    Turn into greased 9 inch square baking pan.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 25 to 30 minutes, just until cake tests done.
    Remove from oven and spread with butterscotch topping at once.
