Sliced Green Tomato Pickle - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 peck green tomatoes, sliced thinly
    12 medium onions, sliced thinly
    2/3 c. salt
    1 qt. water
    1 qt. vinegar
    2 1/2 c. sugar
    1 qt. vinegar
    1/4 c. pickling spices (tied in a bag)
Preparation
    Pile the green tomatoes and onions in an enamel pan in alternating layers.
    Sprinkle salt over top and let stand overnight.
    The next morning, drain, then add water and vinegar. Let come to a boil; drain and add sugar, vinegar and pickling spices.
    Let mixture come to a boil and cook for about 10 minutes before packing in sterilized jars and sealing.
