White Beans, Ham And Sausage - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. white beans
    1 c. chopped onion
    1/4 c. sliced green onion tops
    1 Tbsp. garlic
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1/16 tsp. cayenne pepper
    1 bay leaf
    1/4 tsp. thyme
    1/8 tsp. basil
    1/2 lb. baked ham, cut in 1-inch cubes
    1/2 lb. smoked sausage, cut in 1/4-inch slices
    1 1/2 to 2 qt. cold water
Preparation
    Rinse beans; cover with lots of water.
    Bring to boil; cook 3 minutes.
    Turn fire out; let sit 2 hours.
    Drain; rinse twice. Add water and rest of ingredients except sausage.
    While beans are cooking, saute sausage.
    Drain grease and add to beans.
    When beans are done, use hand potato masher and mash beans about 12 times.
    All beans will not be mashed.
    This will thicken beans. We eat this with rice.
