Sweet Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    25 dill size pickles
    brine to cover
    alum (size of a walnut)
    2 qt. sugar
    1 qt. cider vinegar
    2 sticks cinnamon
    1 Tbsp. whole cloves
Preparation
    Wash pickles.
    Place in brine (strong enough to hold up an egg) and leave for 5 days.
    Remove from brine.
    Wash and slice pickles 1/4-inch thick.
    Cover with water and alum.
    Let stand overnight.
