Dill Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    early cukes spears (wash stuff in jars)
    1 hot pepper (optional)
    1 clove garlic
    1/4 tsp. alum
    1 head fresh dill (in bottom)
    6 c. vinegar
    3 qt. water
    1/3 c. coarse pickling salt
Preparation
    Put dill in bottom, then spears.
    Make brine of vinegar, water and salt.
    Boil with dill.
    Top with lid; pack.
    Let stand for 6 weeks.
    Shake every little while.
