Aunt Fannie Ruth'S Hush Puppies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. self-rising cornmeal*
    1 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. sugar
    1/2 c. finely chopped onion
    1 egg, beaten
    1 to 1 1/2 c. buttermilk (enough to make a batter a little stiffer than you would for a skillet of cornbread)**
Preparation
    *If using regular cornmeal, add 2 teaspoons baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon more salt.
