Ham And Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. Northern beans
    6 c. water
    1 1/2 lb. cooked ham or ham hock
    2 tsp. salt
    3 cloves garlic, minced
    2 c. water
    4 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
    3 carrots, scraped and diced
    1 medium onion, finely chopped
Preparation
    Soak beans overnight and then drain.
    In a large pan combine the beans, 6 cups of water, ham, salt and garlic.
    Bring to a boil.
    Cover, reduce heat and simmer 2 hours.
    Then add 2 cups water and vegetables to beans.
    Cover and simmer about 30 minutes or until vegetables are tender.
