Ingredients

15 medium tomatoes (about 5 lb.) peeled and quartered
1 c. dark brown sugar
1 c. (6 oz.) tomatoes cooked to a paste or 1 can paste
1 tsp. salt
6 bread slices or buns, cut into cubes (about 3 c.)
1 c. melted butter
Preparation

About 1 1/2 hours before serving, in a 3-quart saucepan over medium heat, heat tomatoes to boiling, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer until tomatoes are soft, about 10 minutes.
Uncover saucepan and cook 15 minutes longer, until tomatoes are slightly thickened, stirring often.
Stir in brown sugar, tomato paste and salt.
Arrange bread cubes in a 3-quart casserole.
Pour melted butter over bread cubes; top with tomato mixture.
Bake in 375\u00b0 oven for 35 to 40 minutes until hot and bubbly.
Makes 10 servings.
