Mrs. Lillie Thompson'S Steamed Fig Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sugar
    1/4 c. shortening
    2 c. flour
    1 egg
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    4 tsp. baking powder
    1/8 tsp. salt
    1 c. milk
    1 1/2 c. chopped figs or dates
Preparation
    Cream shortening.
    Add sugar slowly, beating well.
    Add egg and vanilla; mix well.
    Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk.
    Add figs or dates.
    Pour into greased pan and steam 2 hours.
    Serve with sauce.
