Mom'S Raisin-Spice Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. raisins
    2 c. light brown sugar
    2 c. cold water
    3/4 c. shortening
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. cloves
    4 c. flour
    3/4 c. shortening
    2 tsp. baking soda
    3/4 c. boiling water
    1 tsp. vanilla or lemon flavoring
Preparation
    Boil together first 4 ingredients.
    Let cool, then add cinnamon, cloves, flour and shortening.
    Dissolve baking soda in boiling water and add to batter.
    Add vanilla or lemon flavoring (lemon juice is best).
    Bake in 9 x 13-inch pan at 325\u00b0 for 40 to 50 minutes.
