Southern Hush Puppies - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 egg
1/2 c. buttermilk
3/4 c. cornmeal (water ground meal)
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
pinch of soda
onion powder (may be added)

Preparation

Beat egg well.
Add buttermilk and mix well.
Stir in cornmeal, salt, baking powder and soda and mix well.
Drop by teaspoonful into deep fat and fry until brown.
As each one is brown on both sides, remove from fat and drain on brown paper, then remove and store in warm oven until ready to serve.
Good with chili con carne and Brunswick stew or just plain good.
