Frijoles Refritos Con Queso - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. pinto or Mexican pink beans
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. bacon drippings, lard or salad oil
    1/8 tsp. ground cumin or chili powder
    1/2 lb. Monterey Jack or process American cheese, cubed
Preparation
    Wash beans; simmer in 1 1/2 quarts of water 2 hours or until beans are tender.
    Add salt during last half hour of cooking. Drain beans, reserving liquid.
