Ingredients

3 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cloves
3 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 c. sugar
3/4 c. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
1 1/2 c. mashed or cut, fresh figs
Preparation

Sift all dry ingredients together 4 times.
Cream the shortening.
Add beaten eggs and vanilla.
Add dry ingredients, alternating with milk.
Add figs; blend well.
Bake in well-greased layer cake pans (3) at 350\u00b0.
Test for doneness at 35 minutes.
