Tea Cakes - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2/3 c. buttermilk
    4 2/3 c. flour
    2/3 c. shortening
    1 tsp. nutmeg
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2/3 tsp. soda
Preparation
    Sift flour before measuring.
    Stir soda into buttermilk and set aside.
    Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and beat until smooth and fluffy.
    Stir in nutmeg, vanilla and salt.
    Add flour and milk alternately in 3 or more portions, beginning and ending with the flour.
    Divide dough.
    On a floured board, roll dough to about 1/8-inch thick, cut with a cookie cutter.
    Sprinkle with sugar. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in a 425\u00b0 oven.
