Cucumber Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. cucumbers
    5 c. sugar
    1/3 c. coarse medium salt
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    6 medium onions
    3 c. cider vinegar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
Preparation
    Do not pare cucumbers; slice thin and add onions.
    Add salt. Cover with cracked ice and mix thoroughly.
    Let stand 2 hours. Drain well.
    Combine remaining ingredients.
    Pour over cucumber mixture; heat just to a boil.
    Seal in hot, sterilized jars.
