German Sweet Chocolate Cake - cooking recipe

1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
1 c. buttermilk
2 1/2 c. plain flour
1/2 c. boiling water
4 eggs, separated
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1 bar German chocolate
Preparation

Whip egg whites and set aside.
Dissolve 1 bar chocolate in 1/2 cup boiling water.
Set aside.
Cream shortening and sugar well.
Add beaten egg yolks; mix well.
Add 3/4 cup of milk alternately with flour.
Add soda to 1/4 cup milk; add to batter and mix well.
Add vanilla and chocolate.
Fold in egg whites. Bake at 350\u00b0 in four 9-inch layer pans until done.
