Pickled Beets (Sweet) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    2 c. water
    2 c. vinegar
Preparation
    Heat syrup until boiling.
    Pour over beets to within 1/2 inch of top of jar.
    Put 1 teaspoon ??? per quart (1/2 teaspoon for pints).
    Process 30 minutes in boiling water bath.
