Ingredients

1 c. each: sugar, shortening, molasses, hot water
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ginger
4 c. flour
1 egg
Preparation

Mix sugar, shortening, molasses and hot water.
Stir in soda, egg and spices.
Gradually add the flour until well mixed. Let dough stand overnight in refrigerator at least 8 hours.
Drop by spoonful onto baking sheet.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 5 to 10 minutes, checking often.
