Sweet Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 gal. cucumbers
    2 c. salt
    1 box alum
    5 c. sugar
    1 qt. vinegar
    1 box pickling spice
Preparation
    Slice cucumbers thin.
    Soak cucumbers 3 days in water to cover.
    Add 2 cups salt to water for soaking cucumbers.
    Drain water and rinse cucumbers.
    Mix alum with clear water; add pickles and soak 1 day.
    Rinse well.
    Make syrup of vinegar, sugar and pickling spices (tied in a bag).
    Return cucumbers to syrup and boil 1 hour.
    Seal in jars.
