Seven Layer Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled
    1 large can Parmesan cheese (sprinkle each layer generously)
    1 head lettuce (start and end with lettuce)
    1 small box frozen peas
    1 green pepper, sliced
    1 large onion, sliced
    6 to 8 cauliflower flowerets (sectioned into small pieces)
    5 Tbsp. sugar (optional)
    1 jar Hellmann's or Miracle Whip dressing
    1/3 c. sugar
    1 Tbsp. cornstarch
    pinch of salt
    1 c. water
    2 Tbsp. butter
    3 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice
    1 tsp. freshly grated lemon rind
Preparation
    In a saucepan, combine the sugar, cornstarch and salt.
    Whisk in the water.
    Stir cornstarch over heat until thickened and clear. Remove from heat and stir in butter, lemon juice and lemon rind.
